Cullen Jackson Jones Dies After Long Illness
Death came to another beloved aged resident of the county Saturday when Mr. Cullen Jackson Jones, age 89, died at the family home near Prentiss after an extended illness.
Mr. Jones was born in Alabama, but had been a resident of Mississippi for the past 65 years. He had resided in Jeff Davis county for the past 36 years. The accumulated years brought the loss of his eyesight and forced him to be a shut-in for some time before his passing.
Funeral services were held from Dublin Baptist Church near Prentiss Sunday afternoon with Rev. G. E. Wells of McComb, a former pastor, and Rev. H. W. Chaney, pastor of Bethany and Oak Grove churches, officiating. Interment was made in the Dublin cemetery with Aultman-Saulters Funeral Home in charge.
Pall bearers were Edward Dease, Marshal Jones, Cecil Jones, Olin Jones, Grayson Berry and H. L. Dykes.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Wort Ella Blackmon Jones, and the following children: R. C. Jones, Ellis Jones, Fred Jones, Mrs. Reuben Dykes, and Jim Jones, all of Carson; Claude Jones, Hazlehurst; Mrs. Oliver Dease, Columbia; Willie Jones, Talmar Jones and Mrs. Burkett Berry, Prentiss. A sister, Mrs. Gaines Morgan of Hattiesburg, 50 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren also survive.
