MISSION
The Mississippi Gravestone Photo Project is dedicated to preserving the memory of our ancestors by capturing and archiving digital images of their gravestones. Over time, weathering and age make many inscriptions difficult—or even impossible—to read. By creating a lasting digital record, we help safeguard this important historical information while providing a valuable, free resource for family history researchers.
WHO WE ARE
The Mississippi Gravestone Photo Project is a privately sponsored, non-commercial, nonprofit educational initiative. Its success relies on the efforts of dedicated volunteers and contributors who share photographs for archival and public access.
VETERAN MEMORIALS
We proudly honor all Veterans in Mississippi. We are currently reorganizing our dedicated, searchable Veteran database. More details will be shared soon.
UNMARKED BURIALS
In addition to our Gravestone Photo Project, we are committed to honoring those whose graves are not marked with a gravestone. If you are aware of a burial within a cemetery that lacks a marker, we encourage you to share that information with us. With your help, we can recognize these individuals on our site as a “Known Burial,” ensuring their memory is preserved and not forgotten. To contact us, click the State Coordinator link below.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We welcome volunteers to help photograph and upload gravestone images across all Mississippi counties. If you’re interested in contributing to this meaningful and rewarding effort, we encourage you to share your photos with our project.
We are also seeking County Coordinators to help lead and support the growth of memorial records within their communities. If you’d like to take on a more active role, we’d love to have your help.
Don't hesitate to ask questions! Contact the State Coordinator.
