Police Officer Ron Jones devoted himself to stopping the flow of drugs.
That devotion led to his death Wednesday while attempting to serve a warrant.
Officer Jones, is the son of Police Chief Ronald Jones, he was shot once in the abdomen while he and members of a south Mississippi drug task force were serving a search warrant seeking drugs at a duplex less than a mile from the police department. He had served on the Prentiss Ms Police department for 5 years and was a canine officer.
Cory Maye, is charged with capital murder in the officer's death.In 2004 he was found guilty and sentenced to death. In December,2006 Circuit Judge Michael Eubanks threw out the death sentence and ordered a new sentencing hearing.
