Funeral services for Josie Faye Abshire, 77, will be held at Miller French Baptist Church in Gotte's Cove, La on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 @ 11:00 AM with Rev. Dore Langley and Rev. John Couch officiating. She passed away peacefully at Lafayette General Medical Center Sunday afternoon. Visitation will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Jennings, La on Tuesday, Sept. 29th from 4:30 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 30th at Miller French Baptist Church beginning at 8:00 AM until the time of her services. A graveside service will be held at Carson Springs Baptist Cemetery in Improve, MS on Thursday, Oct. 1st at 11:00 AM.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Noah Abshire of Jennings.
Preceded in death by her parents, Nathan & Mary Phelps Lott; one brother, Nathan Lott, Jr. and two sisters, Mildred Bykes and Marie Picou.

Versie Lee Alford, 82, of Sandy Hook, died Aug. 30, 2007, at St. Tammany Parish General Hospital in Covington, La. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Carson Springs Baptist Church. The Revs. Carl Dickens, Charles Kennedy Jr. and Billy Ray Hines will officiate. Burial will be in Carson Springs Cemetery. Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Alford was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Marion County to Arthur and Georgia Boyles Tynes. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, J.M. Alford.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Conerly, and Anna and Douglas Turnage, all of Sandy Hook; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be J.R. Barber, David Tynes, Eric Lucas, Ben Kennedy, Eddie Kennedy and Johnny McKenzie.
