Claude Sanford Green, Sr., 1927-2017, Bay Saint Louis, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on July 1 at the age of 89. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of American Legion Post 139, and attended both Our Lady of the Gulf and St. Rose de Lima parishes. Claude's work for the Lord began as a Benedictine Brother at St. Joseph's Seminary and Abbey in St. Benedict, LA. Upon leaving the seminary, he met and married the love of his life, Ethel. His early work life began on the L&N and Public Belt Railroads in New Orleans, LA. Later, Claude retired from several careers, including the U.S. Postal Service, Coast Electric Power Association, and his own family business, Green Railroad Services.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lacy A. and Elizabeth (Gutierrez) Green, his sons John David Green and Patrick Wayne Green, grandson Caleb Patrick Green, and his brother Father Lacy Green.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ethel Schindler Green, his children Claude (Gene) Green Jr., Michael (Nicole) Green, Elizabeth Green, Mary (Danny) Ainsworth, Claudette (John) Luther, Sech (Wayne) Lewis, Terry (Sarah) Green, Billy Green, and Lacy Green; 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, his siblings, Tommy Green and Patricia Johnson, and special family friend Ashley Higdon. Private services will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Notre Dame Hospice (Gail, Stephanie, Tammy and Terrance), Father Michael O'Connor, Father Augustinus Seran, Deacon Michael Saxer, and caregivers Martha Oliver and Willie Keys.
