Wife of Dave O Edwards
Funeral services for Mrs. Elmira Edwards, 70 of Amite, La were held from Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Thursday, February 26, at 10 A.M. with
the Rev. B. Alfred Jones, pastor of Cedar Grove Baptist Church officiating, assisted by the Mt. Gilead pastor, the Rev. Vernon Dodd.
Interment was in the church cemetery with Colonial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Walter Edwards, Liberty Edwards, Junior Merritt, Howard Edwards, Leonard Merritt and Johnny Edwards, all nephews.
Mrs. Edwards died Monday, February 23,at Pike Memorial Hospital in
Kentwood La, after a long illness.
Mrs. Edawrds was a native of Marion county, born Elmira Rester, daughter of Liberty and Mary Merritt Rester, and was reared in Hopewell community. She resided for a short time in Columbia and resided for about 15 years in Amite. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Edwards
had a wide family connection and many friends in this area.
Surviving are her husband Dave O. Edwards of Amite; three daughters,
Mrs. Wilma Lee Cox of Amite, and Mrs. Irene Dixon and Mrs. Velma Julie Rollins of Columbia; three sons, Robert Edwards, Joseph Clifton
Edwards, and Earl Ray Edwards, all of Amite, one sister, Mrs. Myrtis
Edwards of Bogalusa, La; 24 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren
and one great grandchild.
