Vivian Penley Hilderbrand died Jan. 8, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was 89.
Vivian was the daughter of the late Frank Newman Penley and Leila Edna Standard Penley.
She was a graduate of Carr Central High School, Class of 1945, where “Penley,” as she was known, excelled in athletics.
She retired as a medical transcriptionist with 50 years of service with the Street Clinic. Vivian was a past president of the Grove Street Elementary PTA, past president of the Mississippi State Christian Women’s Fellowship and served on the Board of Directors of the Community Concert Association. She was a member of the Community Chorus and was a longtime Meals on Wheels volunteer.
Vivian was an award-winning cook, and was recognized as one of the best cooks in Vicksburg. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and a member of the Fellowship Adult Sunday School class.
Vivian is survived by two daughters, Lynn H. Baker (Earle M. “Buddy”) and Susan H. Everett (Denis); two sons, Mark S. Hilderbrand and Keith P. Hilderbrand (Katherine); grandchildren, Bradley M. Baker, Kelly B. Stanford (Gary), Brett M. Baker, Mark S. Hilderbrand Jr. (Cindy), David M. Hilderbrand, Erin P. Everett, Catherine C. Everett and Elizabeth A. Hilderbrand; and great grandchildren, Joshua C. Stanford, Christian B. Stanford, Noah B. Baker and Zoe C. Hilderbrand.
Vivian is also survived by a sister, Sara P. McCaskill.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Earl Hilderbrand Jr.; brothers, Frank H. Penley, Ephraim C. Penley and James L. “Buck” Penley; and sisters, Audrey P. Werner, Iris P. Brock, Edna P. Sorrels and Grace P. Wright.
Memorial services for Mrs. Vivian Penley Hilderbrand will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at First Christian Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Murphy and the Rev. Dr. Walter Frazier officiating.
Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the service.
