Jonah
Mar 27,1849-Feb 21,1916
Mr. Jonah Crawley, age about 65 years, a respected citizen of the Advance neighborhood, in company with his young daughter was coming to Columbia last Monday morning and when they had reached the crossing on the main line of the Great Southern Lumber Company's tracks, about 5 miles east of this place, he became confused in looking at a light down the track that in the heavy fog, then prevailing he took to be the rear light of a log train backing down the track and just as in the act of crossing his buggy was struck by the rear car, throwing him and his daughter out with great force, the girl landing on top of the car and being considerably bruised. Mr. Crawley sustained so many broken bones and internal injuries that death resulted late the same afternoon. Drs. Thompson and Garner from Columbia went to the scene of the accident after Crawley's death and held an autopsy, the results of which we have not yet learned.
