February 17, 1961 - June 23, 2016
Sylvia Ann (Greer) McBeath, 55, of Vicksburg went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 23, 2016. Sylvia was born on February 17, 1961, in Savannah, Georgia, to Gene M. and Dixie Greer.
Sylvia graduated from Jim Hill High School in Jackson and then received a degree in nursing from LSU, where she served as President of her nursing class.
Sylvia married Kim R. McBeath of Vicksburg in March, 1982. Kim was stationed on two separate assignments in England with the US Air Force. They enjoyed their life abroad, visiting several countries in Europe.
Sylvia’s nursing career included working medical/surgical at Huey P. Long Hospital in Alexandria, LA, and serving as the nurse for the flight surgeons’ office at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA.
For the past 15 years, Sylvia was a pediatric nurse for Dr. Gordon Sluis of Merit Health in Vicksburg. During this time, Sylvia and her co-workers developed a relationship like a family. Sylvia loved all of her patients and enjoyed being a part of the care for so many children.
Sylvia was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg. She will always be remembered for her loving and fun spirit. She was a joy to everyone she knew. Sylvia had a special place in her heart for her three dogs, Maggie, Lucie, Coco, and her cat, Tucker. One of Sylvia’s favorite places in the world was Hawaii. She and her husband visited the islands on four different occasions.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Gene M. and Dixie (Brister) Greer of Jackson and her father-in-law Kenneth R. McBeath of Vicksburg.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Kim R. McBeath, her sister Amy Greer Whitton (Lonnie) of Clinton, her mother-in-law Wynette McBeath, three nephews, Joey Bonelli, Landon Whitton (Julia), John Bonelli, two nieces, Lyndsay Whitton, Megan Ferrier two great nieces Lena Capriotti Whitton, Halle Grace Bonelli, four cousins, Mary Belinda Duckworth, Bill Waller, Carol Brister, Lauren Brister and many friends.
The family is profoundly grateful to Imelda Perkins for her loving and knowledgeable care, and to Dr. Martin Newcomb and staff.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 26, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. The funeral service will be Monday, June 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Landon Whitton, Lonnie Whitton, Joey Bonelli, John Bonelli, Joe Bonelli, Mark Hardy, Richard Lack.
Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Gordon Sluis, Dr. Thomas Moore
