GERTRUDE SHEPPARD HELWIG, 95, passed away on January 1, 2016, surrounded by her family at her daughter's home in Waveland, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alexander R. Helwig, Sr., her daughter, Trudy H. Phillips, her brother, James Harper Sheppard, Jr. and her parents, Gertrude W. Sheppard and James Harper Sheppard, Sr. She is survived by her son, Alexander R. Helwig, Jr. (Rose), her daughter, Kathleen H. Morrison (Michael), and her daughter, Sally H. Broussard (the late Jim). Also survived by her sister, Patt Moore (Haskell), her grandsons, Alexander R. Helwig, III and Cmdr. Henry L. Phillips, IV (Mimi), her step-grandson, Michael Morrison, Jr. (Melisa), her great-grandchildren, Alexander R. Helwig, IV, Ella and Anna Grace Phillips, and her step-great-grandchildren, Michelle, Caden and Amelia Morrison. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS with a 10:00 am Prayer Service. Burial to follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Bay St. Louis, MS. Special thanks to all of her caregivers at Tender Hands Home Care, Notre Dame Hospice and Mississippi Homecare for the kind and loving care she received. In lieu of flowers, Gertrude has requested memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or St. Clare Catholic Church, 236 S. Beach Boulevard, Waveland, MS 39576).
Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis is in charge of the arrangements
