Thelma Margaret Rushing Dunaway, 94, a native of Walthall County, Miss., died peacefully on Wednesday evening, Oct. 3, 2007.
Visitation at Capps Funeral Home, Tylertown, Miss. Funeral services will be at Salem Baptist Church. Interment in Sims Cemetery, Walthall County.
She was born Oct. 8, 1912, to Mr. and Mrs. Zachary Calvin Rushing (Sarah Etta Johnson). She was married to the late Hezekia "Hezzie" Dunaway for more than 50 years.
A devoted homemaker, she was active in her community and Salem Baptist Church, where she was involved in the Women's Mission Union and Sunday school. Always singing, she actually recorded some of her own home-grown songs that she liberally shared with her family spread across the globe. She also enjoyed fishing and gardening.
She is survived by her son, Z.C. Dunaway, Baton Rouge; daughters, Hazel Faye Corn, Tylertown, and Wilene Etta Friar and husband Robert Friar, Ocean Springs, Miss.; sisters, Eula Rushing Hawkins and Annie Mae Rushing Moses; eight grandchildren, Barbara D. Chaney of Shreveport and husband William Chaney, Kenneth W. Dunaway and John D. Dunaway and wife Ginger Daigle Dunaway, all of Baton Rouge, Eugene Herrin, North Carolina, Brenda Holmes and husband Gwynn Holmes, Sue Rials and husband Kennie Rials, and Diann Alexander and husband Richard Alexander, all of Tylertown, Elizabeth Skweres of Houston, and Elisa Rebecca Montgomery of Indiana and husband James Montgomery; 25 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her siblings, Eva Rushing Marbury, Z.C. Rushing Jr. and Marvin Rushing.
