James Hagan and John Jenkins were two of five editors of the Vicksburg Sentinel killed in duels or fights because of political disagreements. Several others were wounded and one committed suicide. The Sentinel, founded by James Hagan and Willis Green, lasted from 1836 - 1860, leaving a legacy of tragedy.
