Entrekin rites held Tuesday at Enon Baptist
Funeral services for Matthew Entrekin, 60, were held at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday from Enon Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Elmer Scarborough, former pastor, assisted by the Rev. James Broom, pastor, and the Rev. Bobby Lowery of Sumrall.
Interment was made in Enon cemetery under direction of Colonial Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Ordie Bullock, A. B. Ball, Harold McBride, Malcolm Thornhill, Jerry Tolar and Calvin Arinder.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Enon Baptist Church.
Mr. Entrekin died at 9:30 A.M. Monday at Marion County General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 1, 1903 near Purvis in Lamar County, son of Jim and Martha Higginbotham Entrekin, and was reared there. For the past thirty five years he had resided at Enon.
Mrs. Entrekin was a carpenter in his active life and was well known over a wide area.
He was a graduate of Lamar County Agricultural high School, Purvis, where he was a member of the football team, and attended Mississippi State University, then Mississippi A&M, where he also played football.
He was a member of Enon Baptist Church and was a deacon, song leader and teacher in the Sunday School. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
His first wife, the former Gladys McBride, preceded him in death in 1953.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Edgie Riley Entrekin of Enon; three daughters, Mrs. L. E. Hudson of Improve, Mrs. Jack Johnson of Tallulah, La. and Mrs. Mike Eubanks of Laurel; one son, Gerald Entrekin of Columbia; two brothers, Marshall Entrekin of Enon and Lyman Entrekin of Baxterville; two sisters, Mrs. Louvenia Anderson of Baxterville and Mrs. F. M. Whiddon of Jackson; and nine grandchildren.
