James Edward Bridges Died Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, Ms., after a lengthy illness. He was 83 and a resident of Vicksburg, Ms., he retired from the military and also from Sears. He was born on March 17, 1933 in Braxton, Ms. graduated from Prentiss High School and then from the University of Maryland. He served in the US Navy, Army, and Air Force from 1950-1974 as an Electronic Warfare Systems Specialist. He fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was an active member of the Crossways Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, and an active member of the Gideon International and Campers on Missions. He was preceded in death by his parents W.D. Bridges and Annie R. Bridges, loving wife Margie Bridges; two brothers Huey E. Bridges and Wilburn Bridges. He is survived by his devoted wife Alice Bridges of Vicksburg, Ms., two daughters Sharon Simmons (Kerry) of Vicksburg, Ms. Rhonda Bridges of Reno, NV. One son James E. (Buddy) Bridges Jr. (Carol) of Vicksburg. Ms. eight grandchildren Nathan Karel, Shelly Simmons, Jared Young, Brittany Young, Dylan Bridges, Jamie Bridges, Michael Warren and Dillon O’Keefe, and six great grandchildren Tyler Karel, Kaylee Karel, Kinsey Karel, Dakota Young, Braelynn and Sadie Warren, and one sister Lois Nell Espinoza of Huntersville, NC. Services will be Thursday at 11:00 at the Glenwood Chapel; visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 pm and 10:00 am until the hour of service Thursday. Rev. Terry White and Rev. Paul Lee will be officiating the service under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Dylan Bridges, Michael Warren, Nathan Karel, Jared Young, Kenny Landers and Kerry Simmons; honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Crossway Baptist Church both past and present. Memorials may be made to Gideon International P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, Tn. 37214-8000, or to Crossways Baptist Church Highway 61 S. Vicksburg, Ms. 39180.
