Nicholas Daniel Coleman was born in Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky to James D. Coleman and Elizabeth Warfield. He was raised in Kentucky where he attended school and graduated from Transylvania College at Lexington, Kentucky. He studied law and passed the bar and became a member of the House of Representatives from 1824-1825. He was elected to the Twenty First Congress and served from 1829-1831. He was a Jacksonian in politics. He later moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi to practice law and was appointed Postmaster of Vicksburg from 1841-1844. He married Lucy A. Marshall and they had numerous children. He passed from this life on April 20, 1874 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was two days away from his 74th birthday.
