Harry Edward Brister, 71, passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014. Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 from 12:00 to 2:00pm at Wright and Ferguson High Street. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, followed by burial at Lakewood Memorial Park. Harry was born Jan. 1, 1943, to Harry L. and Elsie Brister, here in Jackson, MS. He graduated from Central High School, and, Nov. 22 1961, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Janie Mae Snellings. He then joined the Navy and continued his education there. Serving well over 25 years, he retired from the Navy in 1988, and began working in Baptist Hospital power plant until his retirement in 2007.In addition to his family, country, and God, Harry loved his greyhounds. He worked with Greyhound Pets of America (LA & MS) to help adopt these dogs to new and permanent homes.Harry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janie M. Brister; sons, Robert (Sue) Brister and Scott A. Brister; daughter, Sharon L. Brister; sister, Emmy Lou Burkes; beloved mother-in-law, Rosie E. Snellings; special cousin, Kim Hamilton; as well as 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many more cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elsie Brister, and sister, Barbara Gauf.
